The Problem

The 3D printing filament market is genuinely fragmented. There are dozens of reputable brands - Bambu, Overture, SUNLU, JAYO, eSUN, Polymaker, Prusament, Hatchbox, Atomic, and more - each sold across their own website, Amazon, and sometimes regional distributors. Each store has its own layout, its own sale cadence, its own shipping rules, and its own idea of what counts as a "deal."

If you want to find the best price on a kilogram of PETG right now, the honest answer is: you have to check a lot of places. That's what SpoolHound fixes.

Fragmented market

Filament is sold across dozens of independent retailers, each with different pricing, stock levels, and shipping rules. There is no central catalogue. Prices for the same material vary by 2-3× across stores on the same day.

Perpetual sales

Most retailers show crossed-out prices and sale badges. Without context — like the actual market average per kilogram — there's no way to know if you're getting a good price or just looking at a permanently discounted MSRP.

Buying blind

Even experienced 3D printer users struggle to compare filament across brands objectively. Finish, opacity, spool type, RFID chip, regional availability - these details are buried in product descriptions, inconsistent, or missing entirely.

What SpoolHound Does

SpoolHound aggregates filament listings from multiple retailers into a single, filterable browser. Every product shows the price per kilogram - the only number that lets you compare a 250g hobby spool against a 3kg bulk roll on equal terms.

Price per kg, always

We normalise every price to cost-per-kilogram regardless of spool weight. A 2kg bundle at €28 and a 1kg spool at €15 are immediately comparable.

Market context

We calculate an IQR-trimmed median price per kilogram for each material and region. Every listing shows where it sits relative to that median — so you can tell whether a price is genuinely competitive.

Deep filters

Material, brand, color, finish, opacity, weight, diameter, spool type, RFID, region, bundle/MOQ - 13 filter dimensions so you can find exactly what your printer and workflow need.

Privacy-first click tracking

When you click a buy link, we record that a click happened so we can see which products are popular. We never store your IP address - only a one-way hash that cannot be reversed. No cookies, no user accounts, no tracking pixels, no page view logging.

Who Built This

SpoolHound is a side project built and maintained by one person. I built it because I wanted a way to compare filament prices across stores and regions without opening a dozen tabs — and nothing like it existed. AI tools help with code and content drafting. All product data comes live from retailer feeds, and technical claims in guides are sourced from manufacturer specs and published research.

Self-funded, runs on affiliate revenue. If you find it useful, using the buy links when you purchase is the best way to keep it going.

What's next: We're working on automated price monitoring for Shopify-based retailers and expanding coverage to more brands and regions. If you'd like to be notified when prices drop, sign up on the home page.
